Acid Reflux: Cause and Effect

Acid Reflux or Gerd is a condition caused by the lower esophageal sphincter not fully closing, allowing stomach acid to flow back into the esophagus.

What people typically reach for are over-the-counter antacids and perhaps even surgery! Normal patients usually are not advised to take care of the problem at the source- Often it is one's diet causing the problems.

Dietary changes can also help manage symptoms including heartburn, regurgitation, chest pain, dry cough, shortness of breath, or trouble swallowing. Minimize symptoms by avoiding trigger foods, opting for smaller meals, and chewing food properly.
